The Preacher

Found a wonderful blog by the preacher about how he lost his faith but remained faithful.

I tried to put a comment in, but I hate giving out my email address, so…

His latest entry is on how someone preaches.

The best preaching I have heard in my life was the year our pastor died. We had a small church and we decided to pay his salary to his wife for a year, giving her time to figure out what to do next.

For a year the men in the congregation selected the songs, said the prayers, gave the communion addresses, wrote the sermons independent of each other. Yet every Sunday, the songs, the prayers, etc. were all on a common theme, all had a common message. It was if we had a liturgy. We did, as a matter of fact. We had a liturgy prepared by God.

It was such a blessing. I don't remember any of sermons, it's been 24 years ago, but I do remember the working of the Holy Spirit to bless our church.

  1. Hi there.

When I'm gone on vacation or whatever, the people of our church, men and women, take turns preaching. It helps their anxiety if I remind them that a sermon is nothing more than a person sharing their “take” on scripture with close friends.

Next time leave a fake email address. I'd love to read your comment! 😉

  2. hello, this is Ellise of lisey.blog-city.com. I love your blog, you're a wonderful writer. And yes, I have more clothes but that's because I always seem to acquire them. I dont know why, I'd like to get rid of most of what I have.
