For some reason our family began talking about the history of the straw. My husband suggested to our eldest that he look it up, since none of us knew anything about it.

Turns out Jan. 3rd is the 118th anniversary of the first paper straws. That’s when Marvin Stone’s patent came through. He made paper cigarette holders, but within two years of the patent to produce the straws he was selling more straws than holders.

Now I know something I didn’t know before.
