In the beginning

I tried to see how much of Genesis chapter 1 I remembered. Not much on my own. The ()’s are for things I either forgot (most) or that are alternative translations (welter, waste, chaos, order).

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form and void- welter and waste. (darkness was over the surface of the deep)
And the Spirit of God moved upon the waters.
(And God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light. God saw that it was good. And he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening (chaos), and there was morning (order)- Day One.)

See post here on different reading of form and void and here on first day.

(And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the expanse and separated the water that was over the expanse from the water under it. And it was so. God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening (chaos) and there was morning (order)- the second day.)

You know, I didn’t remember that God named things. So God created the heavens and the earth. How did he do it? We don’t know. And the earth, after he formed it, wasn’t really much use. It was a big glob of water. But the Spirit of the Living God moved there. What a blessing. But it was dark. And God wasn’t having any of that. He had/was his own light. But he called light into being. And it was there. And he saw that it was good. But he didn’t just bring light. He also kept the dark. And he NAMED the light and the darkness.
