I’m interested in science, so when National Geographic’s Top Ten stories of 2006 offered a description of “a new Eden,” I went to read all about it. Turns out scientists went into New Guinea, to a place Westerners have rarely gone. (One guy had been before.) And they’ve found lots of new animal species. One was the tree kangaroo, which I remember reading about. And a golden bird, also remember reading about. But there are lots more.
In addition, National Geographic has up a series of photos of sea animals that were amazing this year. One to be discovered was the yeti crab. One was a Jurassic shrimp that everyone thought was extinct. (They knew it had existed, just didn’t know it still did.)
