The Post Gazette says that NEA found that 96.2 million people read at least one literary work in 2002. That’s not good because it’s not much of an increase of how many people read one literary work a year in 1982 and we’ve added 20 million people to the population. (Do they count illegal immigrants? Do they interview illegal immigrants?)
What does that mean- a literary work? I’ve read entire blogs. Do they count? I read for hours on the net, but I don’t count that in my reading lists. Maybe I should. Maybe I should add any blog I’ve read for the last year as a book. I’ve certainly spent more time reading those blogs, probably each one, than I have the longest book I read this year.
Hmm. Have to think about that.
