This is the chow-chow my dad grew up eating. He loves it. I’m the only one with a recipe because back when I was in junior high, I asked my grama for it.
Here it is:
1 gal. green tomatoes (ground up)
large and small head of cabbage (ground up)
Grama used a sausage grinder.
1 or 3 hot peppers (optional)
4 or 5 sweet peppers (bell)
At least three must be red.
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup salt
3 or 4 cups vinegar.
Cook until cabbage turns dark. Put in jars hot.
If you’re going to pressure cook them, put them on 10 lbs for 15 minutes.
It is not necessary to pressure cook them.
I want to make this for my dad for Christmas.
